Well….. it’s time to get onto the Coasters!
(And you might have to bear with me, this is going to take longer to type as I’ve just spilled acetone on my keyboard… :/)
If I’m honest…. I really have no idea how coasters became my thing. I really don’t. I just started making them one day and they got more and more complicated, diverging into more and more different subject matters and inspirations and getting more and more artistic. But whatever it was that got me going, I’m glad it did!
My range of decorative coasters is growing all the time, I’ve added two of them in the last week, and of course I’m always more than happy to accept requests or ideas for new ones. Since there are so many of them I’ve divided them in my store into TV & Movie Coasters, Comic Book Coasters, Foodie Coasters, Gaming Coasters and Proper Music Coasters (because yes, I am a grumpy old man and modern music really DOES suck). There’s also a few which don’t fit into any of those categories, but I love them anyway.
Firstly the Move & TV Coasters. As you’ve kind of noticed right now they all fall into the sci-fi/fantasy genre (so if you’re expecting Eastenders coasters… sorry, kind of out of luck there). So there’s coasters for Star Wars, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, the various series of the Stargate franchise, Lord of the Rings, Ghostbusters, Tron, The Last Starfighter… and the list goes on and on.
Then we’re onto the Comic Book Coasters; Batman, Superman, Captain Marvel, Iron Man, Black Panther, Dr Strange, Wolverine, HYDRA, SHIELD, Captain America, Watchmen…. basically Earth’s Mightiest Heroes (and Villains) all coming together for your protection and decoration!
My Foodie Coasters is a small range, but it’s designed because there’s just times when that healthy protein smoothie won’t do. The flagship of the range, and most popular design by far, was inspired by my living in Scotland for five years; my tribute to the mighty Irn Bru.
My Gaming Coasters are for the discerning gamer who wants to park their pint before they pull the boss. Clinically proven to increase your DPS by 27.4% (not a guarantee); Halo, Overwatch, Fallout, World of Warcraft, League of Legends and more. For combatting the evil of cup rings, or enchants for your epic gear.
And then there’s the Proper Music Coasters. Your talismans of talent against the blandness and banality of music today (yes, again, I’m aware of the fact that I’m old and grumpy). Van Halen, Foo Fighters, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi…. and so on. Yes, I WILL be doing a Queen one very soon, but I’ve been a Queen fan for many years and I want to do one which really does them justice. Watch this space…
Finally there’s a few which, as I said before, don’t fit into one of those categories. There’s the Pirate Flag Coaster (for rum, or any other stereotype pirate-related beverege). There’s the Lucky Cat Coaster, a traditional image from Japanese culture, which can either be used for catching drips or for mounting in the entrance room of your house in the traditional way, to beckon in good fortune. And yes, there’s just plain old practical coasters; one with a raised edge which stops spills and there’s even one with a biscuit holder!
But you don’t have to use any of these as coasters if you don’t want to. I’ve had customers use them as door nameplates, guitar decorations, emblems for their PC tower, hubs for their car steering wheel or even as large decorations for a Christmas tree! All can be fitted with 3mm x 5mm neodymium magnets, so they can also then be used as magnetic signs, fridge decoration, car emblems or anything else which involves sticking them to something metal. The possibilities really are endless.
So I’m pretty sure, if you’re into all these kinds of areas I’ve mentioned here, there’s a coaster or two in my Etsy store which is perfect for you. I generally run a sale in at least one Coaster section of my store every month, this month if you enter MARCH2019 you’ll get 10% off my Comic Book Coasters. But order soon; the code expires at midnight on March 31st!
Like I said before, I always welcome ideas, suggestions and feedback of all kinds. Everything I do, I do it for you! (hmm, Bryan Adams coaster…….?)
